There's a Ranger now on Ebay for £575 which was on Gumtree for £750. I looked at it before Christmas so if you want to know my impressions please send me a message.

Regards

Richard

I gather that its not that good then, despite looking OK in the photo's. It has been on Gumtree for months, started at £875. I've never seen a "Van" Ranger in real life, despite going to Kit car shows for the last 10 years.

You are still looking I take it, don't forget a lot of Rangers are about 25 years old, so few are going to be in marvelous condition, mine had the galvanised chassis & a 1600 X/flow & I thought that was a good start, I have now replaced nearly everything else to get it to what I wanted.

Don't give up.

Thanks for the encouragement John. The "Norfolk" car had some realy quite serious faults that made it undriveable in my opinion, so I made a silly offer and left it. However I've recently purchased a Ranger with a 1600 crossflow in it. It it in fairly clean condtion, much better than the "Norfolk" car but comes with a host of annoying electrical faults. I'll just have to keep plugging away at it. Also I'm still actively searching for a Rancher which is what I realy want.

Pleased to hear you have found a Ranger & good luck searching for a Rancher.

If the electrics are really hacked about, it may be worth sourcing a decent S/H loom from someone like Escort-Tec or The Escort Agency. I replaced the whole loom on my Dutton Sierra as it was an absolute mess, took less than a day & permanently cured all the gremlins.

My Ranger had masses of 1 amp yellow wire everywhere, the rear wiper would only work with the engine running, turning on the Hazards or rear fog light cut power to the radio etc. etc. All the switch connector blocks were missing, the wiring was a mess, unbeliviable that it had worked for 25 years without catching fire, I rewired using correct rated cable, 3mm gold plated push on connectors, with the wires soldered in, then covered with heatshrink. This has sorted out a lot of problems.

I can't add an image, so I'll post a new topic on wiring

Fortunately I have now located all (I hope) of the causes of faults, most of which derived from the two alarm systems which are for the time being isolated. As the vehicle had been standing for five years it is only to be expected there would be problems, coroded terminals and fuses etc. Tomorrow I'll fit a replacement starter and we might have lift off, fingers crossed.
