1600 OHV with Type B gearbox - clutch cable?

Post by JamesF » Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:37 am

I'd be grateful if someone could advise on the clutch cable. Is it the Escort Mk2 one? It seems a bit short whatever I have fitted.

No one know? Can't believe no one has had to replace a clutch cable. Mr Ford's wonderful idea of saving cash on a hydraulic system - the cable can stretch or snap... utter pain.

From memory (it was a long time ago) the RS2000 cable is longer, I seem to remember there is something written in the build manual about the clutch cable ??

After posting I found my build manual which says it is the Cortina Mk3 - but a visit to a motor factor and a look in the data book revealed that it is 3180mm long. The Escort mk2 1600 OHV is 1830mm.

I got one and it does fit but is slightly tight. Ideal length would be an extra 15-30 mm. But laying the cable on the floor with a measure reveals 860 mm so the dimension is not just 'tip to toe'. It would seem the 'length' refers to the protective sheathing before it 's wrapped round... but that doesn't seem likely?

In my desperation to get a cable asap I didn't think of Burton Power (in the past i found them slow to deliver) - they seem to list clutch cables including Cortina mk3 so that's where to go. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Hi James.
I seem to remember the number 1010 was part of the code for the clutch cable but cannot tell you which the letters proceeding it are, as all my paperwork went with the car. I have just looked in my little book but I only wrote down clutch cable but not code for it. if it comes back to me I'll get in touch.

Hi James
The number has come to me the code is QCC1010 this was a Quinton Hazell number but any good parts shop should be able to cross reference it.
