Ranger fuel cap

Post by JamesF » Sat May 20, 2017 9:04 pm

I'd be grateful if someone could confirm if the filler nozzle is Escort mk2. My two Rangers do not seem to have Escort filler caps?

The two caps I have are a non locking which fits better and a locking one.

If someone has got one recently I'd be grateful to know what you sourced.

Hi James.
That definitely looks like an Escort filler neck. it should go through the body and on the inside of the car carry on and disappear through the floor, the filler necks come from the van & Estates not a saloon as these are too short. "Gs escorts" can supply locking fuel caps for them.

Hope this helps

Regards Alan.

Thanks - I thought they were but wasn't sure. Potentially quite a few of the 70s could fit as they didn't vary that much unlike modern cars. The metal one is quite a good fit compared with the plastic one I've got but would be failed on the MOT test

I don't think so as I have just bought one and it doesn't fit. £30 wasted.

Hi James.

That's very strange as I bought one for Trudy and fitted it only a couple of month's ago and it was £15.00 not £ 30.00. so that indicates to me that you have bought the wrong type of fuel cap. did you get it from gs escorts?

Hi Alan

My apologies you are right. One on ebay caught my eye which was almost new and listed as van/estate one but as typical on ebay completely wrong.

Hi James .

Did the one off Ebay except returns because I would ask for a refund, ebay are very good if you have a problem, try the seller first and if no joy "open a case against them" this will then be run from ebay who will then give the supplier options to resolve this. I have used them a few times and always got my money back sometimes without sending wrong item back. so long as you have not passed the 60 day period from purchase date.

Regards Alan.

Thanks that's what I will do at the weekend. I really short of cash at present and thought this was a genuine seller. I should have gone to GS Escorts as you said but then I saw this as NOS.

Can a kind soul send me a good pic of a estate/van fuel cap to jessejazza.uk@gmail.com - then I have a pic of the correct item. thanks

I could only find one pic which was just a frontal view - what I want is a side view to send to ebay. I'd be grateful someone could do a quick pic.
