Hi Tim.

The door locks come from the donor car that was used to build your Ranger/Rancher whatever! possibly a Mk 1 or 2 Escort However can you tell me what is wrong, as they are quite simple to remove and refurbish.

you can always give a call on 07747893977. (text me first to see if I am available.)

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was suppsed to get email confirmations of a reply but I don't seem to (even though the feature was turned on)?

The locks on my Ranger looked more like filing cabinet types (FS key etc), rather than the more typical Ford key of the time but that also could be wrong. ;-(

I'll have to get one out and have a closer look.

Cheers, T i m

Hi Tim,

Further to your e-mail I had a dig about, I got a set of high security cam locks from here http://www.camlock.co.uk/en-uk/cam-locks-products

Hi Simon and thanks for that.

I had found them but couldn't see anything that used a conventional key?

In the end (/short term) took the barrel out of the rear lock (as the tailgate is padlocked anyway) and put it in the drivers door.

You wouldn't think finding a *true* replacement lock so difficult but with the body diameter, depth, key type (double sided preferably), key ruggedness (some look like those luggage lock keys made out of tin), the ability to remove the key in both locked and unlocked positions, rotation stops and with a robust cam that was long enough and can be made to face the right direction (some cams have square holes cut 'square' and others square but cut on the diamond) ... it seems it is. ;-(

They key also needs to be easy to use (in the dark etc) ... so nothing that needs experimentation / alignment to for it go in.

So were the locks typically supplied with the kits can you remember (I can't remember getting anything myself)?

Cheers, T i m

Hi Tim,

I recall I bought the high security ones with the round key, however looking at the Camlock site the series 31 may do the job.

Europa also stock these http://www.europaspares.com/chrome-plat ... -keys.html however I think each lock has a different key which was one reason why I went to Cam Lock as they can supply multiple locks keyed the same and from memory the key profile they gave me would not be used for anyone else !!

Drop Camlock an e-mail, I found them very helpful !

The Keyless entry system I fitted on TT2(TDi) was a lot easier to live with as no fiddling about with tiny keys !!

Ah, I think I must have missed those and they do indeed look suitable, especially as they also supply a range of cams, if the body length is (4m) longer than the originals. ;-)

I think I will Simon, thanks.

But relies on having a charged battery in there and that it's used fairly regularly?

p.s. I don't see to be getting reply notifications again Si so are we in the strange unfathomable position as before when the notifications are being swallowed up somewhere? I think last time you created some sort of mail relay to overcome it?

Hi Tim

The original locks were already fitted at the factory before the kit left for the buyer, all the builder had to do was supply the internal catches, rods & mechanism and fit it all together, that's the bit I thought you were looking for the internal bits as they do seize up a bit but can be removed and cleaned up and lubricated. I had mine out a couple of times during the period I owned mine.

Ah, ok.

Understood Alan. No, all the other bits seem to be fine, it's just the barrels (or one) getting a bit rough.

I'm still awaiting a reply from Camlocks and if I don't get one soon I'll give em a ring (unless you know where I can get any of the originals from)?

Hi Tim.

The barrels can also be taken apart carefully and washed out with WD40 then reassembled with a thick grease, then when replacing them you can set them up so that when unlocking you have them both (back & Drivers doors) the same. i.e. unlocking anti clockwise or clockwise.

Regard's Alan
