Mobile sauna-gctid4060

We went to a classic car show on Sunday, everything was going ok until we hit Barnsleys many sets of badly programmed traffic lights. The once good cooling system was letting me down, the electric fan didn't cut in with temp and the manual over ride also was a none starter, by the time we pulled into the show ground we had steam billowing out from under the dash. Anyway, after it had all cooled I filled the system back up, then got the fan working, I loosened the filler cap for the trip home too. We made it home ok and I had a look at it all, it would seem that the heater matrix has thrown in the towel so for the short term I've bypassed it. The radiator temp switch is stuck in the on position so one of these has been ordered, I'll wire it back up with a couple of relays that should help protect the switch and the wiring, next though I'll be tracking down an heater matrix, mine is the same as the mk3 fiesta, some new"cheap" ones at £19 others up to £80 are available, first though I need to confirm the size, it seems there are a few that are 15mm different, knowing my luck only the expensive one will suit, time will tell.

To update this minor blip
I changed the heater matrix for one from a mk111 fiesta, it fits mine ok. The fan control side of things had a few mods, a new temp switch on the radiator now only switches a relay, the relay then puts the power to the fan so that should take care of the temp switch and stop it getting frazzled, the fan that I fitted a while back is two speed, I've got the high speed connected at present with plans to put the low speed on a manual switch, most of the wiring is fitted along with a relay to protect the switch. When I've finished the project I'll update again

Have you used the Fiesta matrix in the Escort heater casing or are you using the complete heater? We have a Mk5 Fiesta which, unfortunately is destined for that great car park in the sky, so I'm wondering if the heater out of that could be an option? ;)

The heater matrix in mine was the exact size of my spare xr2i matrix, it's completely different to the mk11 escort one, without removing the heater box I would say it's impossibe to know.
I've now ordered some relays with n.o and n.c connections from our good friends in China via ebay, that will take care of the two speed fan control.

I'm still using the original heater unit complete with fan, I did toy with the idea of swapping it all for the xr2i heater unit but everything is different, air inlet, hose connection positions you name it, it was different
