Ranger alternative seats

Post by JamesF » Thu Jun 29, 2017 7:03 pm

I gather the original seats were Metro/Rover 100 which are now not so easy to get hold of.

Could someone give the positions of the seat frame bolts. I am thinking about some Peugeot 206 seats and wondered what the difference in size could be. Alternatively what other seats have folk fitted other than Metro? Race seats like Cobra/Corbeau are an option but haven't the cash at present.

I've not tried this but I would think any reasonable narrow seat with a flat mounting could be made to fit.
My first ranger had Metro seats but the second had the Rickman supplied seats which where corbeau.

Scrap yard options that my be worth a look; Fiat punto ? Maxda Mx5 (not sure if these tilt..)

Last year I found some Corsa ones that were a treat, the old metro ones on the drivers side had broken so it would not pass the Mot.

I went looking at scrap yards and that's what I came up with, I then went about replacing the bracketry so they would fit, they have a seatback that tilts forward. that means you can secure the brackets to floor and seat won't tip up which is a Mot failure.

The original seat brackets could be purchased from the Rickman factory and they were designed to accept the seats from the donor escort, but as theses were not always good most builders opted on the metro one's, I did have a pair of Volvo 340 seats in early in the Rangers life complete with under seat heating but they were a little bit wide and would foul the interior door pull. That's when I changed to the metro one's.

Regards Alan.
