interesting Ranger cabrio on ebay-gctid4024

Post by LeeSample » Mon Oct 05, 2015 5:13 pm

well, a very 'keenly'  :o priced Ranger cabrio has hit ebay, and there are some interesting claims on the ad.  I was just wondering if anyone can add some substance to the claims?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231710130235? ... EBIDX%3AIT

first off - the registration is Q578 NRO and can be checked against the rickman owners club site as a demonstration model.

ive looked all over, and can't find the info.  can anyone substantiate this?

next: rear springs are rickman multileaf- not escort

again, does anyone know if rickman manufactured their own springs? I cant find mention of them in the order form I have, but it would be interesting to know if they were available....

finally:   it was membership number 707 in the rickman rangers club and was built by one of the rickman brothers

now THIS is a claim i'd love to see substantiated, as it would give some great provenance to the car.

so, does anyone have any ideas, or is it all just sales bluster??

thanks all  :)

It does seem a bit too good to be true, RO was a Luton registration, not Hampshire which I would have expected.

Does anybody know of the car ?

there seem to be quite a few ****NRO registrations knocking about on rangers.

Perhaps it was more to do with the allocation of Q plates than actual location?

the fact that the car doesnt have the correct decals on the sides, and an incorrect wheel cover don't help back up the 'provenance' either.

perhaps a message to the seller is in order?

to add to the interesting story - the DVLA are showing the manufacturer to be FORD. and it is showing as untaxed since 1997 :o

i sent the seller an email asking about the make and model on the V5(c) and he is going to get back to me.

he also says he had "someone from the owners club come down and look at the car and tell them about it" and if i want to check the info on it's background, i'd have to ask the membership secretary.... Paging Gerry........ ;)

As far as can recall the Rickman brothers were at the top of the membership list, I assumed 790 was the number of the current owner.

The one person that might know the history & lives in that part of the country is Andy Blakemore ................

aye. an acquaintance of mine who is quite interested in buying it, asked a few questions. one - what is the model on the V5, and two, do you have any paperwork to back up the provenance of the car, as the owners club dont seem to be able to back up all of the claims.

the response was "FORD" and "so the owners club cant look up past owners details then?"

sounds like whoever is selling it, is talking it up, but doesnt have anything to back up the chat.

alsio, i cant find any mention of Rickman produced springs in the build manual, it simply states that the springs from a mk1 or mk2 escort must be used.......

some people........ ::)

Sounds like someone is being creative with the sales patter. Odd that it is registered as a ford but has a Q plate.
