Very impressed, you have done loads of work. I prefer the headlights to my square ones, are they Escort Mk2 ?

Hi, yes they are ,if any one else changes there one,s to square lights you must get the correct backing pods, as round lights will fit in the square pods as they are smaller, but square lights wont fit in the round pods. ::)

So if any one is short of the front/rear bars or a roof rack, and wants to go to port talbot and get them they are FREE to pick up, let me know, or they may end up in the scrap yard, little brother said that the remains can stay for a few weeks in his garden, then it has to go.

Hi, been working away on the way home the head gasket blew so stripped it down, i think i need a new rad as the old one was full of rust, may be that stopped the water flow,

Sorry to hear that. I've been looking at the cost of radiators as mine is too small & they are not cheap. In the past I have used the 2 part Radflush to succesfully clear a restricted radiator, may be worth a try before buying a new rad.

Well i bit the bullet and orded a new upgraded one cost £125, it will be here on friday, i may drill some round holes in the front bumper as well, then space the number plate out a bit, so the air can pass behind it,or move the number plate to the side,

Hi Outlaw,

As you will have seen some members removed the horizontal bars from the front "grill" in the hope of getting more air through to keep the engine cool.

Invariably most Rickmans use a larger engine than the basic Ford Escort, in turn requiring more cooling. A point to ponder also is the fact that the Ford Escort had relatively a larger engine compartment allowing a lot more air to circulate around the engine. A friend of mine cured this problem by having a three core radiator made.

Personally I overcame the problem by fitting a remote header tank, simply to provide more water for the system, and it worked for me.  I also fitted an electric fan which very rarely switches on, sometimes in heavy slow moving traffic.

Just a thought for you to consider !!.

Good luck,

Bernard

Thanks for that, the one that i am having for the jeep has twin core with 41 tubes for extra cooling :), i was woundering abot putting vents in the side of the bonnet as well, i have got hold of a electric fan, and a header tank off a 3ltr capri for the car, thinking of getting a mini temp gauge to plum in as well, may be a over kill but safe,

Hi Outlaw,

The theory of airflow to cool the engine through the engine comparment is that the air coming from the radiator is forced over the engine and DOWN under the car caused by the bulkhead and having a bonnet fitted. If you put louvres in the bonnet ( sides or top ) the air will be able to escape via these louvres ( path of least resistance) before it has done its job of assisting in cooling the engine and is not recommended.

They look faster though ;) ;),

Good luck,

Bernard

Ricky has a remote header and electric fan for her Zetec and that runs just fine although we have removed the front grill bars. The radiator is I think a VW one because it was around at the time.
