forgot to say, the list of work is as follows:

hardened exhaust valve seats
valve guides replaced
all valves reground
new cam bearings
new camshaft
new followers
chemical clean
pressure test
light skim
paint.

On saturday I picked up the head from the engineering shop - they have done an amazing job, everything looks like brand new, and they even went to the trouble of painting the relevant parts for me for no extra cost! if anyone is around the bedford area, and wants any work doing, i can thoroughly rec...

glad you got it sorted Richard :-) unfortunately i only saw this today. my rangers both run electronic ignition - the white one is an accuspark dissy unit, and the green one a lumenition module. perhaps this would be worth a look in the future to prevent having to worry about points and condensers? ...
